Fiberglass bunds are commonly installed in sites with old bund installations, which are subject to corrosion issues, such as steel bunds. The fibreglass linings, also known as glass-reinforced plastic lining or chemical-resistant GRP lining, can also offer additional protection to brick and concrete settings where masonry-based substrates have damaged mortar joints.
This is because glass-reinforced plastic lining can withstand harsh chemicals, whilst concrete and brick bunds are porous and, therefore, more at risk of corrosion. While every lining we offer has good chemical resistance, this is especially fibreglass lining over a concrete bund due to the structural integrity it can provide.
The fluid-tightness of these fibreglass linings bunds is ideal for storage vessels that hold sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid, during which the concrete structures collapse could lead to a catastrophic spillage on site.
When compared with other bunds, especially fibreglass lining bunds, this polymer-based lining is lacking chemical resistance compared to chemical-resistant GRP lining, but it does offer fantastic structural integrity, which is ideal for preventing movement stress cracking.
This is why polyurea linings are often applied to any sites subject to severe movement issues, such as new builds.
Polyurea linings are mainly used to protect against severe movement issues, including movement stress cracking on concrete and brickwork bund lining, and can be applied to a large surface area. However, they can also tolerate temperatures of up to 120 degrees, making them suitable for all kinds of applications, as well as being protective against UV light.
Epoxy bund linings are typically used on steel bunds, similar to fibreglass lining, making them suitable as an oil storage bund. Epoxy coatings can be applied to the surface area to add protection to the steel bunds, but unlike other polymer-based lining systems cannot withstand abrasive blasting, nor will they add protection to masonry-based substrates like fibreglass lining.
They are not suitable for concrete or brickwork bund lining due to the fact epoxy bund linings are susceptible to movement stress cracking. However, epoxy linings are ideal to use in an oil storage bund, much like fibreglass linings.
